We are very excited to meet the children during our school visits and we are sure they will settle quickly into school and have a fantastic first day!

We look forward to building fantastic relationships with the children and you and your families over a happy and busy year ahead. We understand what a big step starting school can be for both children and parents so we hope the transition will continue to be a good experience.

The importance of a home-school link is very important to us so please remember that the door is always open if you need to talk to us or have any questions. Please let us know if you have any worries or concerns so that we can sort out any problems as soon as possible. After school is the best time as mornings are very busy settling children into new routines.

Autumn Term

This term will be an exciting time for the children. They will be learning all their new routines about school life and developing their skills through play. We will go for Autumn walks as we begin to discover the changes in seasons moving towards December. During the Christmas season the children will be working very hard to perform a Christmas Nativity which we invite parents and carers to visit. We will be learning about our families and reading the book ‘Supertato’ by Sue Hendra and Paul Linett for our first topic 'Super Me!'. Following this, we will delve into the topic 'Down in the Woods' where we will read ‘The Gruffalo’, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and 'Owl Babies'. These books are always a favourite among the children. We will have a special visit from some owls too!

Spring Term

This term we will be exploring the topic of transport through 'All Aboard!' with a visit to Bognor library! We are also going to be going on a train ride and have a visit booked from the Fire Service.

Another of our topics called 'Ponds and Swamps' is going to include the stories of 'The Bog Baby', 'The Teeny Weeny Tadpole' and 'Dinosaurs'. More fun and lots of learning opportunities indeed! It sounds like a fun term ahead!

For more information on what we will be learning about and reading this term (and for the Autumn and Summer term) head to the 'Curriculum' tab at the top of our website. https://www.edwardbryantschool.co.uk/Curriculum/Our-Edward-Bryant-School-Curriculum/

Summer Term

More fun is in store for the Summer Term!

One of our main topics is going to be 'It's a Bug's Life!' where we will be reading ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ story and ‘Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell’. This book was written by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet whom the children will be familiar with from our 'Supertato' learning from the Autumn term. The children will also be able to enjoy going on Minibeast hunts and learning all about these wonderful creatures. Our art unit will involve the famous snail piece by Henri Matisse and the children will be able to have a go at doing their own version of this.

We will be exploring the topic of 'Roots, Shoots and Muddy Boots!'. This includes an exciting trip to Staunton Country Park. In addition to this we will be having a visit from the Wildlife Trust.

Sports Day will be happening during part 2 of the Summer Term and we will be busy practising for this! Keep a look out for a date and more information on newsletters.

Other exciting news includes hatching duck and chick eggs.... quack quack! We will update our school Instagram with photos.
