Year 2

 Welcome to Year 2

We have a superb team in Year 2. Mr Whitby teaches 2W, Miss Smith teaches 2S and Miss Drew teaches 2D. Our wonderful teaching assistants are Miss  Stone, Mrs Sygulska and Miss Whitbread.

Autumn Term 2020

We have a great first topic planned to begin Year 2 which focuses on the book ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’. We will be reading lots of The Lighthouse Keeper stories about Mr Grinling and hearing all about the different things he gets up to. As well as this in our Design and Technology lessons we will be designing and making deliciously healthy sandwiches. In Science we will be focusing on the features of a healthy lifestyle.

In the second half of the Autumn term we are focusing on the book ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’. In History this term we will be learning about the epitaph of Bognor Regis and we hope to take a trip there to find out more. In Design and Technology we are going to be making moving cards with a Christmas theme.

Spring Term 2021

In the Spring term we have many more exciting topics to look forward to.  We will be reading the book ‘Tell me a Dragon’ in the first half of the Spring Term and the children will have the opportunity to complete many dragon related writing tasks.

The second half of the Spring term will see a focus on a story called ‘Masha and the Firebird’. This book, written by Margaret Bateson-Hill, features traditional Russian fairy tale characters: a magical firebird who is the guardian of the eggs of the elements and a vicious witch called Baba Yaga. During this second half of the Spring term, we will also be creating some candle flame art work and in our History lessons we will be learning all about The Great Fire of London.

Summer Term 2021

Our main topic over the Summer term is animals. This will include looking at animal habitats in Science and Geography. The first half term will focus on the book ‘The Hodgeheg’ and animals of the UK. In Geography we are focusing on the features of a park and in Art we will be creating some leaf art using different resources.

In the second half of the Summer Term we will be continuing our animal theme and focus on African animals. During this term we hope to visit Marwell Zoo, where we will have the opportunity to see some African animals.  In Literacy we will be reading the book ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’. In History we will be learning all about the explorer David Livingstone and his explorations.
