Autumn Term

In the Autumn Term we kick off our fabulous learning journey looking back into Ancient Rome and Pompeii, reading our class text 'Escape from Pompeii'. In History we will continue to learn about the Roman Empire and how the Romans came to Britain. The Science topic will focus on Rocks and Soil, where we will be investigating the different types of rocks and how they are formed. We will also learn about the formation of soil, exploring the soil on our own school grounds. In Geography we will be learning all about volcanoes and earthquakes.

In the second half of the Autumn term the English lessons text will be, The Firework Maker’s Daughter which takes us into the cultural depths of Asia. This will lead us in to some learning in Geography about how our world is divided into different continents and countries and then looking in depth at one of the countries in Asia.

Spring Term

To begin the Spring Term, our main text is The Iron Man - another classic text. Children will be writing newspaper reports and diary entries. In Art, we will be be studying  the artist Michelle Reader who specialises in sculptures; there will be a big focus on the importance of recycling. In Computing, we will be learning how to use a programme called Scratch. In our Science lessons, we will be learning all about magnets and how they are used in everyday resources.

Summer Term

To end their time in Year 3, we have a fantastic summer term planned for the children. We will start our English topic, focusing on Treasure Island and have a visit from the History Man to give us an exciting insight into the life of a pirate. We then move on to learn about the Stone Age, as we look closely at artifacts from that time.

Other Information

The children will have PE lessons twice a week. However, we ask that the children have their kits in school all week. Please help us by labelling every piece of clothing your child brings to school.

Please continue to support your child with the homework set each week. Weekly homework includes reading, learning spellings, practising times tables on TTRS and a SPAG task set on 'Spagtastic.

It is, of course, vital that you hear your child read as often as possible. We ask the children to get at least three signatures in their reading diaries a week.

There will be a task set on Spagtastic each week as well as a spelling test every Friday.

We would also really welcome any volunteers to read with the children. Please come and see us if you would be able to help us with this!
